Maxi Dress for Summer

Hello all! Have I ever told you that I love a good maxi dress? I know that I’m not a girlie girl in some ways but if you give me a great fitting maxi dress then I am on board. Simplicity 8595 is the perfect maxi dress for summer! There are several different views, I decided to make view D. There is also a cold shoulder option, but I don’t care for that style.

I used a burgundy floral jersey knit fabric that I purchased from Fine Fabrics in Commerce GA. It was only $3.99 a yard and is very soft and smooth to the touch. I was afraid of the neckband, but this fabric lays well, so the neckband was easy breezy this time.

The pattern only had 4 pieces, the front, back, sleeves, and neckband. Since Fine Fabrics sell the large rolls of fabric, it is wider than the normal 60”. I was able to fold each selvage edge to the middle and lay the front and back pieces of the dress on both sides! That’s what I call a win, win because you are preserving fabric. I still have enough fabric to make a top, skirt, or a shorter dress depending on the pattern.

The pattern is beginner friendly and I highly recommend it for the summer. The pattern was so easy that I was able to sew it up at our last Project Sew Atlanta in under 45 minutes. Of course, I prepped everything at home, so I did not have to worry about trimming the pattern and cutting the fabric when I got there. That’s the great thing about prepping, it saves so much time in the sewing process.

This pattern will be a staple in my wardrobe this summer! Leave a comment and let me know if you have made this pattern or plan to make it this summer.
