DIY Slanted Clutch + YouTube Tutorial

Hello All!

I’m very excited today because I get to share with you how to make a beautiful slanted clutch bag. I’m always looking for a new style of clutch bag to make and this one fit the bill perfectly. I was a little intimidated by this purse at first because I did not know what to expect and I wasn’t sure how to do the measurements. I searched YouTube for a video but I could not find one that I could fully understand so I put pen to paper and started sketching.

I used the measurement of my zipper as a guide for the top slant of the clutch which measured 13 ½ inches. Now this includes the zipper tape on both ends as well, the actual zipper length is 12 inches if you are looking for the exact measurement to purchase. I knew that I wanted the clutch fold over so I made sure that the height would accommodate that. The left side is 15 inches and the right side is 11 ½. The only thing left to do is connect the lines at the bottom and that measures 13 inches.

I used a denim fabric that I purchased from Fine Fabrics and 2 Wonder Woman fat quarters I purchased from Walmart. Anyone that knows me pretty well knows that I am a huge comic book fan so I am not opposed to using that type of fabric for the lining. Overall I’m very satisfied with the finished product and I will definitely be making more and adding them to my online store.

To see how I constructed this clutch bag from start to finish including drafting the pattern, check out the YouTube video here.
