Bella Wrap Top + Simplicity 8656

Hello All!

Ok so before I get into these two patterns, let me tell you how taking these blog pictures almost took me completely out of the game! LOL! As I was putting on the skirt I put a hole in the waistband and I accidentally cut a tiny hole the waist tie on the top. I had to put on some Spanx so that my panty lines wouldn’t show. I was trying to get the pictures done before I had to go back to work for my evening class. I hid every imperfection and I put my game face on! One hour after I finished taking the photos it started to rain! So now back to our regularly scheduled program….

Simplicity 8656 is a knit asymmetrical skirt that I love. This is an easy to sew pattern in the Simplicity collection and you can have it done in an hour and a half from start to finish. I actually wanted to make the skirt in red like the pattern, but I needed something to match the Bella Wrap top, so I decided to go with the blue. I used a Ponte knit that I purchased from Fine Fabrics. I love the asymmetrical element of the skirt and that it has an elastic waistband.

The Bella Wrap top is a PDF pattern from Rosy Pena patterns. This wrap top has a sleeveless and an angel sleeve option, as well as waist ties. The top can be tied on the sides or the back, so that is another amazing style option. I love how well the pattern sewed up and there is a step by step video tutorial. Check out my pattern review below:

Pattern Description: V-neck wrap style crop top with waist ties that can be styled at the side seam or center back.

Fabric used: Spandex from Fine Fabrics

Pattern Instructions: The instructions were very easy to follow and there are several guides that include body measurements and fabric options. There are also diagrams on how to lay out the pattern pieces onto the fabric and detailed diagrams to follow for assembling the pattern.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? Yes

What size did you cut? I cut a medium, which fit perfectly except for the arm band. It has nothing to do with the pattern, my arms are small, so next time I will cut a small around the arms eye.

Level of difficulty: 1/5 Beginner

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that this is a wrap top that is easy to sew and can be done in 2 hours or less from start to finish.

Pattern alterations or design changes: None

Would you sew it again? Yes, I plan on making it again in a solid color as well as other prints. I can’t wait until the Fall season, so I can sew it with the dramatic sleeve.

Would you recommend it for others? Yes definitely!
